Join the ‘Love Medway’ competition

Medway’s UK 2025 City of Culture bid together with the Medway Champions, Medway Place Board and local arts organisation Art Is For All, have teamed up to invite school age children across Medway to take part in a Valentine’s Day creative competition to back Medway’s bid and express their pride in their local neighbourhood. The competition is supported by local schools and Medway Messenger.

2021 is the year that Medway will be submitting its UK City of Culture bid which is the equivalent to Medway of what the Olympic bid was for London.  The ambitious project is being led by locals across the area and backed by communities, residents, schools, charities and people across Medway.  The campaign invites everyone who lives, works or studies in the area to support the plans to bring Medway’s history and talent to life in a world-class creative and cultural programme across the whole of Medway.

Young people and children are at the centre of Medway’s UK City of Culture ambition and have played a central role in shaping Medway’s creative aspirations across a wide range of artforms including dance, art, theatre, video game, digital arts, craft and much more.

Children (0-13 years) are invited to use the template distributed via Medway schools and available on the City of Culture bid website to create an eye-catching design expressing the spirit of Medway and their local area for display in their front windows.  To enter, families can share a photo of their children’s designs via the #BackMedway hashtag or return via post.

The three winning children will see their designs brought to life across the local area on banners and installations supporting the bid and available for sale on products such as t-shirts, coasters and notebooks via the Art Is For All website.  Profits will support Art Is For All’s creative work with children in Medway.

The Valentine’s Day ‘Love Medway’ competition can be entered by downloading a template below.  Medway schools will also be supporting and distributing templates for children to work on over the half term break.   Alternatively templates can be collected from and returned to any Medway library.
